Plugged In

Plugged In follows the idea of ‘Silent Discos’. Gatherings (although not necessarily) of people disconnecting from the world for a while. The work showcases just that: different people in different places, listening to different music with different personalities, all with the same shared experience. Music.

The work is displayed as a CD insert along with a soundtrack, comprised of tracks selected by the participants.

My method of escapism has always been music. Music acts like a companion; I could let the music transport me to another place. In such a fast-paced, chronically online world, plugging in lets me breathe, lets me feel and lets me express.

I made this series to showcase the music’s power. Both as a means of expression and of escapism, whilst blurring the lines between the participant and the viewer. Posing the question, how far can we immerse ourselves and fall into another world? Each picture is not only a moment caught in time but a soul showcased.

I wanted to showcase something more than just a photo. I wanted a piece of tangible artwork to take home and escape with. An artwork into another world.
